Prisons

Third class democracy and a second class economy.

Mr. President,
Thanks to you we have a third class democracy, a second class economy, and a first-class idiot for a president that got us there.

If the war were not bad enough , you have also made a place for yourself in history as our economy has officially slid to second place as the European Union now replaces the United States as the world's leading economy.

No longer number one.

According to
official estimates of 2007 GDP, the US had a GDP of$13,843,800 billion while the European Union had a GDP of 8,847,889.1 billion euros. Once the dollar dropped to 1.56 Euros per dollar, the EU has technically surpassed the United States as the world's largest economy.

Our nation has set numerous records while you have been in office. All of which has reinforced the negative image of America.

We have a prison for you.

Besides running secret jails all over the world to keep and torture al-queda suspects we imprison our own people in record numbers throughout our country.

We are fast becoming a huge penal colony with large urban areas, gated communities, and suburban enclaves dispersed between prison compounds. Despite having the
world's largest prison population, the rate of violence has continued to increase while we set one record after the other on gun violence alone.

According to a new report from the Pew center, more than one of every 100 adults is in jail or prison, and one in every 32 U.S. adults were in jail on probation or on parole, making America the world's No. one jailer.

The report says 2,319,258 Americans were in jail or prison at the start of 2008 and it doesn't matter if you look at the numbers per capita or just raw numbers, it's more than any other nation in the world. The US spends over $49 billion with a "B" in 2007 and the cost of our prisons is rising.

No wonder you built Guantanimo so quickly, we have so much experience building prisons.

Torture R Us
Under your orders, the notorious prison compound in Guantanimo has suspended the rights of suspects whom you deem to be sub-human and below any legal consideration. It has helped negated any perception that America was a "just and law abiding" nation.

It used to be that America was known for our cowboys and Al Capone. We have evolved to be known for starting wars and torturing suspects.

Back in January,
Canada placed the United States on the same watch list as Syria, China, Iran, and Afghanistan. Countries where prisoners run the risk of being tortured. Your administration threw such a fit that the Canadians had to recant their original declaration.

King George
It is easy for Canada and others to confuse our nation with nations like Syria and China.

You have essentially changed the definition of our nation's style of government thru coercion, illegal acts and the most unimaginable liberal definition of executive power. You have crowned yourself to be a supreme power which is closer to an absolute monarch, a monarch who has consistently placed the well-being of corporations over the welfare of your country.

Therefore, we are technically not a republic anymore. You do not respond to the will of the people you flout the rule of law, you violate the principles of our constitution and you don't really care about the people or what they think. I am waiting for Laura to quote another royal from the past and exclaim her derision of the poor by saying, "Let them eat cake."

Cheney the statesman ...excuse me while I throw up
The idea of Cheney serving as your foreign secretary to the Mid East is hilarious. "Is that a nuke in your pocket or are you just glad to see me mr. Vice-president."

More likely his real mission is to privately support and perhaps goad Israel into attacking Iran. He will no doubt provide Israel a personal guarantee that the United States will immediately follow Israel into an Israeli-Iran war.

As far as getting OPEC to lower their prices you might as well ask them to sever their right arms just because you said please.

As long as the dollar continues to slide and the world's economy continues to get sucked into our swirling pool of economic recession they will not increase production.

Why didn't you go to the Mid East with Cheney? You could have picked up a rifle and joined the boys on the front.

You believe killing, and being killed is a romantic mission. You really are detached from the tremendous death, pain, and misery you cause to hundreds of thousands of people aren't you.

In a video conference with U.S. military and civilian personnel on March 15, 2008 you said, "I must say, I'm a little envious," Bush said. "If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed," Bush said.

"It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. " You're really making history, and thanks," Bush said.

You weren't very excited to fight in Vietnam war when you used your daddy to get you into the Texas National guard only to go awol when you found out about an upcoming drug test.

If you want real excitement,
Invest your pension in the Stock Market or in the dollar.

The half-assed plan you established to help out just a few of the millions of homeowners who got caught in the sub-prime loan mess is a joke because only a fraction of the millions in trouble will get any kind of relief.

Your credo has been:" It ’s not government's job to bail out ... those who made the decision to buy a home they knew they could not afford."

People do tend to be less cautious when they know they'll be bailed out. Economists call this "moral hazard." But, even when they're being reasonably careful, people cannot always assess risks accurately especially if the loans are complicated and convoluted.

Many banks and mortgage lenders pushed the envelope when they persuaded many people to take loans they could not afford.

The term moral hazard describes what Federal Chair Ben Bernanke did when he cut the Fed's discount rate (charged on direct federal loans to banks) and announced that the Fed would take whatever action was needed to "promote the orderly financing of markets."

Is this fed-talk for "the U.S. government will bail out lenders, credit-rating agencies, financial intermediaries, and hedge funds?"

Does this mean that one way or another, they will not be allowed to fail just because someone thinks they're simply too big to fail?

If so, thousands of well-paid executives who played loosely with loans and credit ratings will not suffer any consequence for their sins so moral hazard will not apply to them.

The credo you use to justify holding back funds to help out swindled home owners will not apply to the swindlers who pushed people into those loans.
